Soup *turtles are very big.
Sometimes they *weigh 300 kilos.
In Africa *people *buy soup turtles
at the market.
These turtles are *just like little old *men,
with a *face full of *wrinkles.
They have no *teeth
and they always *look sleepy.
The life of a soup turtle is full of *danger.
*Even making baby turtles
is not *easy these days.
Soup turtles live in the sea.
They *lay their *eggs in the sand.
But many of the best *beaches for turtles
are *crowded with people.
The *female turtles can’t find a place
to lay their eggs.
But turtles never protest.
They are *quiet *animals.
They don’t even have *voices.
*Exept when they *fall in love.
Then they *moan softly.
Sometimes a *male turtle *makes a mistake
when he is in love.
He sees an old *shoe.
He *thinks it is a female turtle.
Baby turtles don’t come from old shoes!
But he is *happier with an old shoe
than in the soup!
